Beginner Guide

Play the demo first on the platform where you intend to buy the full game — save transfer only works within the same platform. Read the confirmed system pages below before experimenting so you know what official sources actually confirm and what requires hands-on play to verify.

First-Session Checklist

Complete these steps in order before or during your first session. Each links to the full guide page for that system.

What to do before and during your first session

Confirm your platform and save-transfer plan

Demo saves transfer to the full game only on the same platform. If you plan to buy on Steam, play the demo on Steam. Cross-platform transfer is not supported.

Read the Demo Guide

Understand the demo's official limits: 5 missions, Level 15 cap, Weapon Proficiency 3 cap. Use the demo to feel the game before reading deeper system pages.

Try each weapon type's basic attacks in the demo

All six weapon types are available in the demo. Proficiency is capped at level 3 per type, so you cannot fully unlock any weapon's Sword Skill tree in the demo. Use this to get a feel, not a verdict.

Read the Weapons Guide and All Weapon Types pages

These confirm what the six weapon types are and how the Sword Skill / Weapon Exp system works. No tier ranking or best-weapon is published — those require hands-on testing.

Read the Build System page

Understand the two pillars: Growth Points (seven stats) and EX-MODs (weapon customisation). See how they connect before allocating your first Growth Points in the full game.

Explore the Town of Beginnings

The Town of Beginnings is the hub in both the demo and the full game. It contains the merchant (Col currency), the smithy (EX-MOD fusion), and is where you switch weapons between quests.

Do not treat community tier lists or build guides as facts

Weapon rankings, stat-to-weapon mappings, best builds, and optimal EX-MOD combinations require hands-on play. Official sources do not confirm any of them. See the evidence boundary below for the full list.

What Is NOT Confirmed by Official Sources

The following are widely discussed in the community but are not published in any official Bandai Namco source. This site does not publish them.

Confirmed

  • Six weapon types and Sword Skills (up to 3 equipped)
  • Weapon Proficiency and Weapon Exp mechanics
  • Weapon switching in Town of Beginnings
  • Growth Points across 7 stats with stat-to-skill scaling
  • EX-MOD fusion: same-type rule, 4 EX-MOD cap, smithy location
  • Six confirmed areas: Town of Beginnings, 1st Floor, 2nd Floor, Tolbana, Citadel Ruins, Labyrinth
  • Demo: 5 missions, Level 15 cap, Weapon Proficiency 3 cap, same-platform save transfer
  • Release: July 9 (US Steam) or July 10, 2026; PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam

Not Confirmed

  • Mission names, objectives, boss encounters, or walkthrough steps
  • Weapon damage numbers, attack speed, role (tank/dps/support), or tier ranking
  • Best weapon for any class, role, or play style
  • Stat-to-weapon mapping (which stats affect which weapons)
  • Optimal Growth Point allocation or best build for any situation
  • EX-MOD effect names, costs, probabilities, or optimal combinations
  • Floor coordinates, route layouts, checkpoint positions, or treasure/shortcut locations
  • Full-game level cap or Weapon Proficiency ceiling beyond the demo's confirmed limits
  • System requirements (no first-party source publishes these)
  • Interactive map, coordinate grid, or navigable floor layout

Early Mistakes to Avoid

Based on what official sources confirm (and what they do not), here are the most common mistakes new players make by following unverified community claims:

Treating a weapon tier list as fact

No official source confirms any weapon ranking. The demo limits your Proficiency to level 3 per type — insufficient data to rank weapons. Try each type yourself before drawing conclusions.

Following a "best build" before the game launches

Optimal stat allocations and EX-MOD combinations require hands-on testing with the full game. No such guide can be written from official sources alone. Read the confirmed systems first.

Assuming cross-platform save transfer works

Demo saves transfer to the full game only on the same platform. A Steam save will not continue on PlayStation 5, and vice versa. Official sources confirm this limitation.

Looking for an interactive map that does not exist

Bandai Namco has not published an interactive map. Searching for coordinates, routes, or a floor layout will not find a confirmed official source. The Locations and Map pages explain what is confirmed instead.

Assuming the demo covers the full game

The demo is capped at Level 15 and Weapon Proficiency 3. The full game's ceiling for both is not confirmed in official sources. Many systems behave differently or are gated in the full game.

Confirmed System Reading Order

If you want to understand the game before playing — or before spending time testing systems that are not yet confirmed — read in this order:

  1. Demo Guide — understand the official scope of what you can try now
  2. All Weapon Types — know what the six weapons are
  3. Weapons Guide — understand how Sword Skills, Proficiency, and switching work
  4. Build System — understand how Growth Points and EX-MODs connect
  5. Growth Points — go deeper on the seven stats
  6. EX-MOD Customisation — go deeper on weapon fusion
  7. Locations — know the six confirmed areas
  8. Map & Discovery — understand the exploration-reveal mechanic
  9. Release & Platforms — decide which platform to buy on

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I play the demo before buying the full game?

Yes — the demo is available now and is the best way to judge whether the game suits you. Just confirm you are playing it on the platform where you intend to buy, since save transfer only works within the same platform.

Which weapon should I start with?

Official sources confirm all six weapon types are available but do not rank them or assign roles (e.g. tank, DPS, support). Try the basic attack rhythm of each in the demo and choose based on what feels right. No tier list or best-weapon guide exists on this site.

How do Growth Points work?

Growth Points are invested across seven stats (Strength, Dexterity, Agility, Intelligence, Vitality, Endurance, Mind). Official sources confirm that weapon skills scale with relevant stats, but do not confirm which stats affect which weapons. See the Growth Points page for the full confirmed facts.

What is the best build?

No official source confirms a best build, optimal Growth Point allocation, or best EX-MOD combination. This site does not publish build recommendations. Read the Build System page to understand what is confirmed.

Can I use a weapon tier list from a YouTube video or wiki?

Tier lists and comparative weapon rankings require hands-on testing across multiple play sessions. Community tier lists are based on individual opinions, not official confirmed data. This site does not publish or endorse them.

Is there an interactive map?

No. Bandai Namco has not published an interactive map, coordinate grid, or navigable floor layout for Echoes of Aincrad. The Map & Discovery page explains the exploration-reveal mechanic, and the Locations page lists the six confirmed areas.
